PROCESS FOR OBTAINING A FAMILY PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA

The process of applying for permanent status for a qualifying family member is generally a two-part procedure:

Part I is the petition filed by the UnitedState citizen (USC) or legal permanent resident (LPR) of the relative. This requires the petitioner (USC or LPR) to prove their own status and their relationship to the relative for whom they are petitioning.

Part II is the application of the non-citizen for legal permanent resident (LPR) status.
